STEMtorship Network

The Women's Center STEMtorship Network is a group mentorship program that aims to build a network of support for undergraduate women in STEM. We believe that by coming together women in STEM can share knowledge and strategies for success while learning in an open and supportive environment.

At the Women’s Center, we understand that gender is a social construct. However, that construct can and does have very real impacts on our lived experiences, including how one moves through their college experience. With the understanding that gender is not always experienced on a binary, we want to welcome all students who believe that this program would be of benefit to them. This includes but is not limited to transwomen, ciswomen, genderqueer, non-binary and gender fluid individuals.

 Program Details

The STEMtorship program consists of three types of events:

Community Dinners: These dinners will happen on a quarterly basis and be a time to build community among the students who are enrolled in the program. The focus of these dinners will be to create a space where students can build connections and discuss the experiences they are having in our STEM programs. All participants are expected to attend the quarterly dinners.

Monthly Meetings: these sessions will vary in topics and format but will focus on special topics that relate to academic achievement, professional development, community building and identity development.  Students will be sent specific event information at the beginning of each quarter and will be given the opportunity to register for meetings that interest them.

Weekly Study Space at the Women’s Center: In order to promote community support during the academic year the Women’s Center will be hosting a weekly study space for students in STEMtorship Network. The date and time of the study hours will be decided on at the beginning of each quarter. Attendance is optional.

The first meeting of the quarter will be our STEMtorship Network Kick-Off event, which will be held on Wednesday, Oct 24th from 5-7pm at the Women’s Center. This Kick-Off event will allow all members meet each other, connect with campus partners/resources and learn more about our upcoming sessions. This is a mandatory event for those who are interested in participating in STEMtorship Network during the 2018-19 academic year.
